For more than 70 years, we’ve been dwelling to the oldest authorized clinic program in the country. The Fred Parks Legislation Library presents students access to more than 90 legislation-associated databases; a complete range of government paperwork; particular collections, including rare books, manuscripts, and archives; and legal research guides.
Our graduates have a strong basis in authorized research and writing as a result of they understand the requirements of profitable communication in practice. But traces of the civil legislation custom and its significance in the hemisphere possibly discovered inside state legal traditions throughout the United States.
The second part of the course will introduce participants to the basics of the U.S. legal system, including the constitutional foundations of the U.S. authorized system, comparable to federalism, separation of powers and checks and balances, and supremacy and preemption; the judicial systems; sources of law and especially the defining rules of precedent and stare decisis and the observe of synthesizing case legislation; and U.S. civil litigation.
Along with gaining experience of their course work writing in law practice contexts — from legal memoranda and court docket briefs to jury expenses, judicial opinions, wills, and studies to the court docket — each year CUNY Legislation students contribute to a proud School of Law custom of writing legal scholarship, which is published both within the CUNY Legislation Assessment: Scholarship for Social Justice and in lots of different academic journals.…
We offer free authorized information & court varieties for simple civil legal problems. Students identify the necessity of a state legislation change, analyzing the deficiencies in current law and apply, drafting proposed statues or laws, refining the proposals to mirror public affairs and political realities, crafting a technique for effectuating change, and pursuing adoption of their last proposals within the California Legislature or an administrative company.
