In early 1617 Grotius debated the question of giving counter-remonstrants the prospect to preach in the Kloosterkerk in The Hague which had been closed. During this time lawsuits were introduced against the States of Holland by counter-remonstrant ministers and riots over the controversy broke out in Amsterdam. On this event, the King Henri IV of France would have offered to his court as “the miracle of Holland”.
